Abstract

The invention comprises azo dyes of the formula <FORM:0944250/C3/1> in which R1 is allyl or an alkyl group of up to 4 carbon atoms, R2 is alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl or chloroalkyl, each of up to 4 carbon atoms, cyanoalkyl of up to 5 carbon atoms, alkoxy of up to 2 carbon atoms, allyl, chlorine or bromine, R3 is a secondary or tertiary amino group in which each substituent is alkyl of up to 4 carbon atoms, hydroxyalkyl of 2 to 4 carbon atoms, alkoxyalkyl of 3 or 4 carbon atoms, cyanoalkyl or beta-acyloxyalkyl both of 3 to 5 carbon atoms, carbomethoxymethyl, carboethoxymethyl, beta - carbomethoxyethyl or beta-carboethoxyethyl; R4 is hydrogen, bromine, chlorine, methyl, ethyl, methoxy, ethoxy, acetylamino, propionylamino or nbutyrylamino; and R5 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, methoxy or ethoxy, the nuclei being otherwise unsubstituted. The dyes are made by coupling an appropriate diazotized 2-aminobenzthiazole compound with a suitable secondary or tertiary aniline. Examples are given. The dyes dye cellulose esters and ethers, polyamides, polyethylene terephthalates, modified polyacrylonitriles, wool and silk in red shades from aqueous dispersion.
