Abstract
996,164. Nestable and stackable receptacles. G. B. LEWIS CO. Aug. 22, 1962 [Aug. 28, 1961], No. 32253/62. Heading B8P. Receptacles adapted to be stacked one upon another and also nested one within another have at least one outwardly inclined end wall and at least one hollow tapered rib extending inclinedly towards the inclined end wall in each side wall, one end of the ribs being closed and serving as a support surface or as a bearing surface when the receptacles are stacked one on top of another, and the ribs engaging within the interiors of the ribs of other receptacles when the receptacles are nested. In the embodiment shown the receptacle has four hollow ribs 30 which are closed at their bottom ends 31 which ends form bearing surfaces. On the inside of each side wall support surfaces 28 are provided upon which the ends 31 of the ribs rest when two receptacles are stacked, and stops 32 prevent sliding of the stacked receptacles relatively to each other. When the receptacles are nested the ends 31 of the ribs 30 of an upper receptacle rest upon surfaces 35 on the inside of the ribs of the receptacle below. The inclined wall 23 extends only halfway up the receptacle thus to enable the contents of the receptacle to be viewed more easily. The receptacles may be stacked in an inclined position (Fig. 6, not shown) and an upper receptacle may take two different positions longitudinally of the lower receptacle. In another embodiment, both end walls may be inclined. The end wall 22 may have a recess forming a hand hole. The receptacles may be stood on a wedge-shaped stand and each stop 32 extends above the top edge to engage a corner 33 on an inclined, superposed receptacle to form a secure stack.
