995,905. Thermo-electric materials. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. Jan. 31, 1962 [Feb. 2, 1961], No. 3768/62. Heading H1K. Materials for use in thermo-electric devices comprise Zn y Cd( 1-y )O, where 0 < y # .35 and A x (Zn y Cd( 1-y )) ( 1-x )O, where A is a positive ion with a valence of three or more, x#.3y and 0À05 # y # 0À35. Suitable positive ions are the trivalent ions of iron, chromium, aluminium and other transition elements and the trtravalent titanium and silicon ions. The typical compounds Cd 0 . 9688 Zn 0 . 0312 O, Cd 0 . 9233 Zn 0 . 767 O, and Cd 0 . 851 Zn 0 . 149 O, are made by ultrasonically stirring suitable quantities of cadmium oxide by ultrasonically stirring suitable quantities of cadmium oxide and zinc oxide together with acetone or alcohol, filtering, pressing the resulting mixture into pellets and sintering at 1200 C.
