A barium and/or strontium and/or lead ferrite contains additional material which, if the sintering temperature were held for a sufficient time, would dissolve in the ferrite, but which is not fully dissolved. In an example, 84À8% by weight of Fe 2 O 3 containing 0À5% SiO 2 is mixed with 15À2% SrCO 3 containing impurities (mainly SrSO 4 , BaSO 4 , CaO and Al 2 O 3 ) and the part of the mixture sintered for a long time (60 minutes) and part for a short time (3 minutes). In the first case nearly all the additional constituents were dissolved in the ferrite, but in the second case only about 20% were dissolved. The material formed in the second case had higher remanence, coercive force and maximum energy product than that formed in the first case. Specifications 988,834 and 988,836 are referred to.
