Abstract

1286468 Ferrites PLESSEY CO Ltd 23 Oct 1969 [6 Nov 1968] 52706/68 Heading C1A [Also in Division H1] A hard magnetic ferrite is made by calcining, at 900‹ C. or higher, a mixture of ferrite-forming materials containing 0À25 to 1À0% by weight of a metallic borate, to raise the BH max value. The ferrite may be of the type Me x Sr 1-x O.nFe 2 O 3 where Me is Ba, Ca or Pb; x + 0 to 1 and n = 4À0 to 7À0. In examples, barium, strontium and sodium metaborates, sodium perborate and (for comparison) lead monosilicate, are added to reaction mixtures in the preparation of SrO.5À8Fe 2 O 3 . Sintering is effected at 1240‹ C. or 1260‹ C. and calcination at 1250‹ C. and 1275‹ C. Values of BH max of 3À4 to 3À9 MGOe are obtained.
