995,488. Clothing for card flats. F. REITERER, L. WINDISCH, and J. NIFENECKER. Oct.23, 1961 [Oct. 27, 1960], No. 37965/61. Heading D1N. Clothing for card flats is arranged to provide a series of serrated ridges with grooves between. Preferably, the grooves are partially filled with dust-retaining material. The action of this clothing is stated to be to push fibres back on the swift clothing without their becoming hooked on the flat clothing, while larger impurities become lodged in the grooves and dust adheres to the dust retaining material. The clothing may comprise plates with alternate teeth 4, 5, 4<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>1</SP>, Figs. 2b and 2c, with differently shaped plates 3, 3<SP>1</SP> laid side by side. In the grooves a filling 7, Fig. 3, may have a rough surface, or may be capable of dust retension by an electrostatic effect, or may be an oily substance. Instead of plates, ridge members 4b, Fig. 5, may be embedded in a block of dielectric material that forms both a hase member and dustretaining groove filling. Channel members embracing the edges of support members and ends of plates (Fig. 4 not shown) are used to build up the flats.
