997,452. Deformable cores. STRESSED CONCRETE DESIGN Ltd. Dec. 31, 1963 [Dec. 31, 1962], No. 49083/62. Heading B5A. An extractable core for forming a passage through a structural element, e.g. a concrete beam, comprises at least two elongated core elements 1, 2 composed of a flexible and deformable material, e.g. synthetic or natural rubber, capable of reduction in cross-section on pulling thereof, one of the elements being provided with a longitudinally extending tongue 4, and the other being formed with a corresponding longitudinally extending groove 5 for receiving the tongue to mutually locate the two elements. Preferably the tongue is a loose fit in the groove, and each has parallel sides although the tongue may be a press-fit in the groove and each may be of dove-tailed configuration. A plurality of tongues may be provided. Each core element may be provided with one or more bores 3 extending longitudinally therethrough. Each core may comprise more than two core elements, all being interlocked by means of tongues and grooves.
