Abstract
In a process for the production of stabilized polyamides, a combination soluble in lactams and comprising 0.001 to 0.1% by weight of a cupric salt of an organic acid and 0.01 to 0.5% by weight of a phosphorus trihalide or phosphorus oxyhalide is added to the polyamide-forming materials prior to, during or after the polycondensation or polymerization thereof and the whole is homogenized in the melt, said percentages being with reference to the total weight of the polyamide-forming initial materials. Specified cupric salts are the acetate, propionate, oleate and naphthenate. Specified polyamide-forming materials are e -cuprolactam, caprylic lactam, laurolactam and hexamethylene diamine, octamethylene diamine, decamethylene diamine or bis-(4-aminocyclohexyl) methane together with adipic, suberic, sebacic or undecane dicarboxylic acid. Pigments, e.g. titanium dioxide, zirconium dioxide, barium sulphate, cerium dioxide or basic lead carbonate may be present in the polyamides. Examples are given.
