Abstract

1420974 Polyamides MONTEDISON FIBRE SpA 19 Dec 1972 [22 Dec 1971] 58548/72 Heading C3R Linear polyamides contain recurring units wherein R 1 and R 2 are independently direct links on C 1-6 alkylene and the rings contain two oxygen hetereoatoms, preferably located 2,6, 4,8 or 3,7. They may be prepared from the salt of the corresponding diamine with an acid R 3 (COOH) 2 where R 3 is C 1-20 alkylene, or a cycloaliphatic, aromatic or aromatic-aliphatic radical alone or mixed with an amino acid or lactan or another diamine/dicarboxylic acid combination. Specified dicyclo(033)octanes are the 4,8-diamino-2,6-dioxa-, 2,6-diamino-4,8- dioxa-, 1,5-diamino-3,7-dioxa-, 4,8-bis-(gamma aminopropoxy)-2,6-dioxa- and 4,8-bis-(gamma aminopropylamino) - 2,6 - dioxacompounds. Various diacids, aminoacids or lactams and additional diamines are mentioned, those used in specific examples being sebacic, azelaic, adipic, glutaric, suberic and pumelic acids and caprolactam. Acetic acid is used as viscosity stabilizer in some examples. The polymers are stated to have high melting and decomposition temperatures and a high degree of crystallinity giving silky fibres and films of high heat shrinkage.
