Abstract

995, 236. Gyromagnetic resonance apparatus. MULLARD Ltd. June 29, 1961 [June 29, 1960], No. 22785/60. Heading G1N. The radio-frequency coil of a gyromagnetic resonance apparatus comprises a conductor of rectangular cross-section wherein the width of the conductor is very much greater than its thickness. Glass cylinder 1 Fig. 1, is electroplated with a thin layer of copper between limits 2, 3 and portions are etched away to form a coil 6 with end strips 13, 14, channels 9-12 being etched away to break what would otherwise be a short circuited turn. The length of the copper plated region should be many times the coil length and the major part of the end portions should be left in situ. Rigorous chemical cleansing to remove the etching agent (ferric chloride) is stated to be essential if false readings are to be avoided, and the arrangement is said to give a high Q value. The use of such a coil in a spinning sample type apparatus in which the unidirectional field is swept is described with reference to Fig. 2 (not shown). Specification 640,878 is referred to.
