Abstract

1,259,098. Waveguides. MARCONI CO. Ltd. 11 April, 1969 [13 May, 1968], No. 22506/68. Heading H1W. A waveguide is made of a ceramic material provided with an internal layer of conductive material. The Specification describes a method of manufacture using a stainless steel mandrel having removable flanges at both ends. This is flashed with a thin layer (e.g. 0À0002 inch) of copper which is then built up by electroforming with a comparatively thick (e.g. 0À007 inch) layer of nickel. With the mandrel still in position, a thick (e.g. 0À1 inch) layer of alumina or zirconia is added by plasma spraying. The mandrel is then withdrawn. The resultant waveguide is capable of withstanding high temperatures and temperature gradients.
