Abstract
994,987. Securing sleeves on shafts; machinery guards. BRITISH IRON & STEEL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. Jan. 3, 1963 [Dec. 11, 1961], No. 44201/61. Headings F2U and F2X. Means for securing a sleeve 19 to a shaft having a sleeve bearing portion 12, with a radially toothed end 14, comprises a collar 18 operatively connected to a radially toothed member 25 such that relative rotation of the member 25 and the shaft prevents axial movement of the collar, and a further member 28 which locks the member 25 against rotation relative to the shaft. The collar 18 is taperbored to receive a tapered ring 22 keyed to the collar and having internal threads engaged by the threaded periphery of the internallytoothed member 25. The internal teeth of the member 25 pass over corresponding teeth 14 of the shaft to a groove 16 such that relative rotation of the member 25 to the shaft 12 to the limit determined by a stop 17 prevents axial movement of the member 25 and collar 18. An internally-toothed flanged locking member engages with the teeth 14 of the shaft and the teeth of the member 25 to prevent rotation of the latter, the locking member being clamped against a resilient ring 32, abutting the member 25, by a circlip 33. Axial clamping movement of the collar 18 is provided by the screw threads and the engaging tapered surfaces. The teeth on the member 25 may be weaker than those on the shaft to break under excess axial load. Specification 956,551 is referred to.
