Abstract

994,843. Spray-producers. B. C. BRAINARD. April 13, 1962, No. 14438/62. Heading B2F, A spray device for forming a spray mixture of gas and liquid comprises a flexible container A adapted to be compressed to cause the air above the liquid in the container to flow up a passage 30 and along a transverse passage 40 so as to entrain liquid up a tube 29 and out through a discharge opening 36, said tube 29 terminating in a flat end 26 within the spray head 14. The cylindrical body 15 of the spray head 14 is sealed to a flange 13 extending from the bottle A. The spray head 14 fits under a cap 21 which is held in place on the body 10 of the bottle by flange and groove engagement 23, 24. A tube 27 up which liquid is forced when the flexible bottle A is squeezed fits in a socket 25 in the spray head, the flat end of the tube coinciding with the base of the socket. The gas passage 30 is generally wedge shaped, Fig. 3, and between its upper wall 32 and the flat end 26 of the tube 27 a transverse passage 40 is formed, approximating in width to half the bore 29 of the tube. The converging side walls 34 of the gas passage terminate in an imaginary line 35 which touches the bore 29 where it is nearest the chamber 30. The outlet passage 36, extending through the top of the spray head 14, has its inner wall 37 inclined, the angle of inclination being related to the extent to which the spray is to be combined. As shown, Fig. 2, the end 26 of the tube 27 is normal to its axis, but in a modification the flat end 26 is at an angle to the axis of the tube and directs the spray upwards, while in another modification it is at an angle to direct the spray downwards. In every case the point of maximum construction of the gas passage is opposite the outlet of the liquid-supply tube and gas is forced across the end of the tube. The relative sizes of the liquid or gas passages are discussed in the Specification.
