A process for making a connection between a cable and a carbon brush or other sliding carbon contact comprises coating with a thin layer of adhesive that part of the brush that will form the connection with the cable, and joining the cable and brush in a known manner before the adhesive is set. In one embodiment a connection is formed between a cable and a carbon brush having a hole to receive the cable by coating the sides of the hole with a thin layer of adhesive and packing in a metallic powder to hold the cable in place while the adhesive is in a fluid state. In a second embodiment the cable is fastened to a brush by coating the brush with adhesive and securing the cable to the brush by a rivet before the adhesive sets. Suitable adhesives are phenolic and epoxy resins. A finely-divided metallic powder, e.g. copper or silver, may be dispersed in the adhesive to decrease the resistance of the connection.
