Abstract

1506386 Commutators GEO L SCOTT & CO Ltd 10 March 1975 [12 March 1974] 10984/74 Heading H2A A commutator has segments 1 mounted on an insulating layer 2 which is bonded to the outer rim 32 of a core 3, the core 3 having an open recesed structure between the rim 32 and a hub 33. The segments 1 may be initially mounted on a strip 4 containing a pressure-sensitive adhesive, the strip 4 being pressed against the rim 32 to transfer the segments thereto. Alternatively, a stamped copper sheet (5, Fig. 3, not shown) with segments (6) joined to side rails (8) may be mounted on a core, and the side rails subsequently machined away to separate the segments. The core and segments may have frusto-conical shapes, as in Fig. 4 (not shown), and segments (16, Fig. 5, not shown) may be secured by bending around the edges of a core rim.
