Abstract

994,763. Thread guides for winding machines. COMPAGNIE DE SAINT-GOBAIN. Nov. 19,1963 [Nov. 20,1962], No. 45570/63. Heading D1D. A thread guiding device 13, Fig. 1, is movable from the setting shown in Fig. 1 to that shown in Fig. 2 to cause sheets 5, 6 of glass fibres issuing from a spinneret 2 to move into a plane parallel to the axis of spools 3, 4 on which the threads are to be wound. As illustrated in Fig. 4 (not shown) the thread guides are truncated rollers 11, 11amounted in the frame 13. The support column 16 has a helical groove 26 into which a pin 27 in a sleeve 24 extends to ensure that the sleeve 24 rotates when it is moved up and down the column 16. The column 16 also has a straight groove 25 into which a pin carried by a pinion 29 extends to ensure that the pinion 29 does not rotate relatively to the column 16 as it moves up and down with the sleeve 24. The resulting relative rotation between the pinion 29 and the sleeve 24 on the sleeve is moved up and down the column is used to drive a chain 30 coupled to a pinion 31 to rotate the frame 13 relatively to the arms 15,15a carried by the sleeve 24. This arrangement enables the frame 13 to move from the full line setting in Fig. 3 (not shown) to the broken line setting as the sleeve 24 is moved down the column 16.
