Abstract

994,600. Boxes for fruit. T. CHRISTIANSEN. July 17, 1963 [July 23, 1962], No. 28332/63. Heading B8P. A box for transporting fruit, in particular bananas, comprises a beam 9 from which bunches of fruit are suspended by means of suspension members 11 which contact the stems or stalks only. The beam 9 which is of inverted U-shape and may be made of metal or plastics is attached to the box by means of flaps which extend downwardly between the layers of opposite side walls 7 of double thickness. The beam is supported by central pairs of inwardly turned vertical flanges 4 on partitions 3 or alternatively by separate vertical strips and is prevented from turning about its longitudinal axis by co-operation of its side flanges with slots in the partitions. The partitions 3 have holes which together with holes in side walls 7 allow circulation of air through the box, the partitions also forming mixing chambers, (Fig. 1, not shown). Preferably flexible spaces 13, which may be of metal, cardboard or composed of wire frameworks, separate the suspension members 11 and also act to stabilize the fruit by contacting the stalks or stems held by the members 11.
