Abstract

994,182. Silos. HALMATIC Ltd., and JOSEPH RANK Ltd. June 25, 1962 [June 23, 1961], No. 22817/61. Heading E1A. [Also in Division B8] A silo for flour or granular material consists of a heat insulated monolithic body having a cylindrical part 1 and a conical end portion 2 integral therewith, the wall housing inner and outer resin-impregnated fibre layers 4, 5 with a rigid cellular layer 6, preferably of foamed phenolic resin, disposed there-between. The material is such as to prevent sweating or caking of the flour and to facilitate its discharge. The wall is reinforced as shown at 7 and provided with shoulders 10 and rubber packings to accommodate expansion relative to the base, see Fig. 5 (not shown). A dome of resin-impregnated glass fibre is secured to the silo wall by screws adapted to yield under internal pressure, tethering ropes being also provided, see Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown). The base may be of mild steel or concrete or the silo may have a flanged skirt to define a stand, see Figs. 12, 13 and 14 (not shown). Access ladders, manhole and inspection covers are also provided, see particularly Figs. 1, 6, 7, 10 and 11 (not shown). To agitate the flour and facilitate its discharge air injection means may be provided, see Figs. 15 - - 18 (not shown). The discharge cone has an angle of preferably 46 degrees and may be connected to a vane-type rotary pump incorporated in the pneumatic agitation system, again see Fig. 15 (not shown). Silos as above may be grouped in pairs, four in-line, or four square nested. Specification 994,183 is referred to.
