Abstract
A vehicle tyre comprises a vulcanized composition of an interpolymer of ethylene and propylene with one or more further copolymerizable compounds serving to confer unsaturation on the unvulcanized interpolymer, said interpolymer containing 40 to 75 mole per cent of units derived from ethylene and 0.5 to 5 mole per cent of units derived from the said copolymerizable compound or compounds. The interpolymer has a molecular weight of 50,000 to 750,000. The copolymerizable compound may be an open-chain or ring diolefinic compound, an acetylene, or a bridged-ring hydrocarbon containing at least two double bonds. Examples of compounds used are conjugated and unconjugated dienes such as butadiene, isoprene, piperylene, dimethylbutadiene, hexadienes and cyclopentadiene. Interpolymers used are included among those described in Specification 880,904. The interpolymers have a Mooney viscosity ML-4 at 100 DEG C. in the range 20-150, those having a value between 50 and 150 being used in the presence of plasticizers, e.g. extending oils. Carbon black may be included in the composition which is then submitted to heat-treatment at 350 DEG to 400 DEG F. for 5 to 10 minutes before the addition of vulcanizing agents.
