Nov. 2, 1962 [Nov. 2, 1961], No. 41540/62. Heading BID. A filter device for a pressure oil circuit comprising a tank 2 with a filter head 1 and filter support member 13 with filter element 11, the filtrate aperture taking the form of an injector nozzle 16 delivering oil to a discharge port 3 of the tank (opposite the nozzle), it being possible for oil to flow to such port from the tank, is characterized in that some of the oil, flowing to or from the filter device is supplied direct to the tank by a path in parallel with the filter assembly. In Fig. 1 a passage 29 is provided in the movable hollow plunger 26 of a by-pass valve and oil flowing through the passage reaches the tank via apertures 22 in a spill tube 21. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the path is provided by apertures in the outer (non- filtering) sleeve 6. In Fig. 4 (not shown), a smaller pipe branches off from the main pipe feeding inlet 4, the branch pipe discharging directly into the tank 2.
