Abstract

993,636. Hinges. BRITISH XYLONITE CO. Ltd. July 8, 1963 [July 9, 1962], No. 26249/62. Heading E2F. Members 11, 12 are connected by a hinge arrangement comprising a socket 13 in the form of a rectangular box or slot and a tongue 14 tapering to provide a lead-in portion for insertion into the socket, the tongue and socket having respective co-operating shoulders 25, 18 perpendicular to the direction of insertion of the tongue to prevent easy withdrawal of the tongue, and the members being capable of turning about a hinge axis adjacent the entrance to the socket. The tongue has some 20 degrees of angular play in the socket, and thereafter further hinge movement takes place by deformation of a thin neck 21 connecting the tongue to the member 12. The components are made of polypropylene or polyethylene.
