Abstract

993, 575. Dyeing felts. M. CASSE. Nov. 16, 1962 [Dec. 6, 1961], No. 43389/62. Heading D1L. Apparatus for dyeing felt blanks, hats, cloches or the like comprises perforated cones on which the felt blanks or the like may be placed, the cones being mounted with their axes horizontal on a vertical tubular wall which may be cylindrical or prismatic in cross-section and dye liquor being pumped through the cones. As shown in Fig. 1 the perforated cones 21 carrying the felts A are detachably mounted on the inside wall of a cylinder 7 such that the interior of each cone communicates, via hollow connecting stubs 24, 25, with an annular space II formed between the wall 7 and an outer jacket 8, the space II being sealed at its upper and lower ends and being provided with an cutlet pipe 19 leading to the inlet side of a centrifugal pump 2. Wall 7 encloses a space I having a removable lid 11 which may be clamped down by bolts 14 so that flanges 12 on the lid engage resilient sealing means 10. Space I is sealed at its lower end by a flow 5 provided with an inlet tube 4 leading from the high pressure side of the centrifugal pump 2. Dye liquor from pump 2 passes through the tube 4 and is deflected by a conical plate 36 into contact with a spirally arranged, steam filled tube 33 to be heated before passing into the vicinity of, and through the felts A. The liquor is then returned from the space II to the pump 2 via the tube 19. The means (see Fig. 2) for connecting the cones 21 to the wall 7 comprises, on the wall 7, a stub tube 29 having an inclined flange 31 and a complementary stub tube 24 formed on the unperforated lower wall of each cone, claws 26 being provided on stub 24 to be slid behind the flange 31. The stubs are thus forced together by the weight of the cone acting on the inclined flange. In a further form, Fig. 5, the cones C<SP>1</SP> which have an elliptical cross-section are mounted on and have access to the inside of a tube 7a by means of connecting stubs as described above. Tube 7a is clamped by a nut 73 threaded on a rod 72, to a flanged opening 67 beneath which is the rotor 66 of a centrifugal pump. Dye liquor is pumped from the space Ia (enclosed by the tube 7a) into the space IIa confined within the outer jacket 8a (which is triangular in cross-section) from which space the liquor passes through the felts and cones back to the central space Ia. A subsidiary vat D may be provided in parallel to the main dyeing vat so that the progress of the dyeing may be monitored on specimen felts. The subsidiary vat may also be used to introduce additional dyes and substances into the main vat. Pressure gauges 54, 55 (see Fig. 1) for spaces I and II and a safety valve 56 are provided. A thermometer 57 indicates the temperature of the bath.
