Abstract

Dibenzoazepine derivatives of the formula:-<FORM:0993255/C2/1> wherein X represents -CH2-CH2- or -CH=CH-; Y and Z represent hydrogen, halogen or C1- 5 alkyl; "alkylene" represents straight or branched C2- 6 alkylene; and R1 represents C1- 5 alkyl, C1- 5 alkenyl, or an alkyl radical joined to the "alkylene" radical, are prepared by reacting a compound of the formula:- <FORM:0993255/C2/2> wherein R2 represents a C1- 5 alkyl or alkenyl radical, with a carboxylic acid halide to form a compound of the formula:- <FORM:0993255/C2/3> wherein Ac represents a carboxylic acid radical, which compound is subsequently subjected to hydrolysis or hydrogenolysis, as appropriate, in order to remove the Ac group. Ac may represent, for example, a carbalkoxy, carbobenzyloxy or chlorocarbonyl radical. Specifications 828,495, 872,802, 908,788 and 913,854 are referred to.
