Abstract

991,689. Brushes for dynamo-electric machines. STACKPOLE CARBON CO. Nov. 19, 1963 [Dec. 18, 1962], No. 45636/63. Heading H2A. An electrical brush assembly adapted to be slidably mounted in a brush-holder 1 comprises a pair of thin carbon half-sections 7, 8, the outer portions of which are provided with a pair of opposing notches which together form a socket having side walls 13 converging towards the inner end walls 12 diverging towards the inner end, and a wedge 14 in the socket engaging the side and end walls and being pushed towards the inner end so as to force the sections 7, 8 apart. In Fig. 1, 3 the brushes 7, 8 are urged into position by a spiral spring 4 having an insulated portion 5 which bears upon the wedge 14, which is of rubber. The leads 9 from the two halfsections are joined at a common terminal 10. In Fig. 5, not shown, the wedge has a longitudinally extending ear which loosely encloses one of the wires of the lead 9, so that the wedge is not misplaced in transit.
