Abstract

An absorbent aqueous solution for refrigerant systems comprises lithium bromide and lithium chromate as corrosion inhibitor, the solution having a pH of at least 7 but below 11. The solutions are prepared by adding chromic trioxide and another acid (e.g. hydrochloric, boric, formic, glycolic, oxalic, citric, hydrocodic, nitric, molybdic, acetic, gluconic, tartaric or ethylene diamine tetracetic acids), or lithium chromate to an aqueous solution of lithium bromide and lithium hydroxide of pH 11 to 13, or by adding lithium hydroxide to a solution of lithium bromide and lithium chromate of pH less than 7. The solutions are compared with solutions comprising lithium bromide and lithium hydroxide with or without lithium molybdate.
