990, 952. Textile treating apparatus. CILANDER A.G. Dec. 20, 1963 [Dec. 20, 1962], No. 50472/63. Heading D1L. In a process for the wet treatment of longitudinally extending textile materials, the material is guided and continuously conveyed through a tube system which is continuously traversed by treatment liquid and which consists of tubes arranged horizontally or slightly inclined, one above the other and connected in series to one another at adjacent ends, and the material moves opposite to the flow of treatment liquid and the treatment liquid is conducted in such quantities and at such a velocity that the tube cross-section is only partially filled with treatment liquid over at least a part of the tube system. The apparatus shown comprises two upright end covers 1 and 2 of rectangular cross-section with horizontal tubes 4 of circular cross-section interconnecting them. The end covers 1, 2 are sub-divided by horizontal partitions 6 into chambers 7, the upper chamber 7 of end cover 1 being connected to an inlet union 9 and the lowermost chamber of the same end cover being connected to an outlet union 10. Each chamber 7 has a guide roller 11 for the material 12 the rollers being free to rotate or driven. The material 12 enters at the bottom through the discharge union 10 and leaves at the top through inlet union 9 whilst treating liquid 13 is supplied under pressure to union 9 and flows in the opposite direction. The rollers 11 are preferably located so that the material 12 is located in the-lower half of tubes 4 so that it travels at least partially beneath the liquid level throughout the entire length of the tube system and if preferred the treatment liquid can be introduced at different points of the tube system.
