Welded metallic mesh reinforcement for concrete has the longitudinal bars at the two edges modified so that on overlapping one section by another the cross-sectional area of the reinforcement is not increased. As shown the outermost bars a 1 , b 1 are the same as the evenly spaced longitudinal bars a 4 , b 4 respectively of two sections of reinforcing mesh. The bars a 2 , a 3 and b 2 , b 3 adjacent the outer bars a 1 , b 1 are of a reduced section. Three or more bars of reduced section may be provided.
