[Also in Group XXII A reinforcement steel for concrete has a cross-section consisting of a core 1, Fig. 2, and of part surfaces 2 distributed round it which widen by the substantially radial directions of their lateral boundaries as their distance from the core increases and are bounded externally roughly by parts of a circle drawn round the core. To raise the yield point of the steel by cold working it is twisted and since in the case of the areas of the part surfaces being greater than that of the cover the twisting tends to shorten the steel, it may be held against such shortening so as to subject it to stretching as well as twisting, whereas if the areas of the part surfaces are less than that of the core, as in Fig. 9, on twisting, the steel tends to lengthen. Longitudinal ribs 3, 4, which may be rolled seams, and also transverse ribs may be provided.
