Abstract
989,790. Telegraphy, transistor circuits. BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH Ltd. Dec. 17, 1962 [Dec. 21, 1961], No. 45882/61. Headings H3T and H4P. A telegraph code converter for converting single current D.C. signals into double current signals, includes a magnetic amplifier the output of which is biased to give double current signals. As shown, a low power oscillator cooperates with a transistor T, to produce an alternating current in a coil C of the transformer constituting the amplifier. This produces a corresponding current in a coil B which, when rectified at MR2, produces a steady positive current in a resistance R1. Input signals, either a fixed positive signal or zero, are applied to inputs L1, L2, and these are rectified at MR1 and fed to a coil A of the transformer. The positive signal induces sufficient current in the coil A to saturate the transformer and thus block the output from the coil B. Thus positive and zero currents at the inputs L1, L2 produce zero and positive currents in the resistance R1. A negative bias is applied through resistances R2, R3 to convert this output to double current signals.
