989,616. Brake shoes; friction clutches. R. J. HUTCHINSON. Jan. 11, 1962 [Oct. 12, 1960], No. 34906/60. Headings F2C and F2E. A brake or clutch shoe for vehicles and for other suitable purposes comprises a metal plate 1, Fig. 3, or spider and an integral friction lining 5 bonded or moulded thereto. The plate 1 has means embedded in the lining for reinforcing or supporting the lining which comprise projections 2 on the outer edge thereof and bent at approximately right angles thereto or a plurality of pegs housed in apertures near the outer periphery of the member 1. To facilitate bonding of the lining the plate or pegs may be roughened or have welded thereto expanded metal or like reinforcing means.
