Abstract

989,515. Centrifugal strainers. DON VALLEY ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Feb. 10, 1964 [Nov. 9, 1962], No. 42347/62. Heading B1D. In a continuous centrifugal strainer having a rotatable and axially vibratable frusto-conical screening basket 20, 21, at least one jet 13 directs fluid on to the outside of the basket to prevent blockage of the basket interstices. Either a single jet having a long, narrow mouth, may cover the whole or at least half the axial length of the basket or several jets in combination, are employed. As shown, a single axial array of jets is mounted on the housing in a plane at 45 degrees to the horizontal, Fig. 1 (not shown), or jets may be spaced circumferentially round the basket. The basket comprises axially extending wires of wedge-shaped section with their wide faces innermost. Fluid supply to several jets may be individually controlled, and the fluid may be hot or cold compressed air, superheated steam or a liquid identical or compatible with that being extracted from the material in the basket. The arrangement is also applicable to vertical axis centrifugal strainers.
