1377002 Gas purifyer CONTROL RESEARCH PRODUCTS Inc 10 April 1972 16421/72 Heading B1R A gas purifyer comprises a container with a cylindrical portion 12 having a gas outlet 14, cleansing liquid outlet 18 and a downwardly directed conical baffle 20 which has a plurality of gas openings 44 so inclined to the upper surface of the baffle 20 so that all the gas streams issuing therefrom have a tangential component of motion rotating in the same sense whereby the helical passage of gas bubbles through a body of cleansing liquid 32 above the baffle 20 gives the liquid a circulatory motion about the axis of the container; the gas purifyer also containing a lower body of cleansing liquid 36 between which and the baffle 20 is formed a gas space 42 extending across the container into which gas is fed from duct 40 at sufficient pressure to prevent liquid 32 descending and to force gas through the openings 44, and an imperforate portion 26 extending from the apex of the baffle 20 to form a connection between the bodies of liquid 32 and 36. The gas openings 44 may be of circular or slit cross section and comprise openings 78, deflector plates 80 (see Fig; 3) preferably at 45‹ to the baffle surface, and optionally lower plates parallel to plates 80. Cleansing liquid is fed onto the baffle 20 from tangentially arranged inlets 30 which imparts a further circulatory motion to liquid 32. In a second embodiment (Fig. 5) a second baffle 124 whose deflector units 136 impart to the gas a motion opposite to that of the baffle 20 is provided coaxially with the baffle 20. A layer of bubbles 34, 146 is preferably allowed to form on the upper body of liquid.
