Abstract

989,417. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Nov. 5, 1963 [Nov. 5, 1962], No. 43553/63. Heading B5K. A method of splicing a pair of sheets 10, 11 together by a splicing strip 17 having one or more pairs of resilient locking tabs 19 arranged integrally therewith initially substantially in the plane of the strip and arranged to correspond with a hole or holes 16 in each sheet 10, 11, comprises raising the tabs 19 of the or each pair so as to bring them sufficiently close to one another to pass through the corresponding hole or holes 16 in each sheet 10, 11 and releasing the tabs 19, after insertion into the hole or holes 16, so that they spring apart and retain the sheets 10, 11 together. The sheets 10, 11 preferably each comprise a writing sheet 12, Fig. 2 (not shown), a carbon or transfer sheet 13 and a copy sheet 14 and each has a row of alternately disposed feed holes 15 and splicing holes 16 extending across the leading and trailing end thereof. The strip 17 of a non- adhesive resilient material, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, film, has a row of alternate feed holes 18 and pre-slit semi-circular tabs 19. To effect the splicing, the strip 17 is positioned on a channel plate 20 provided with semi-circular ears 22 and is rolled down thereon by a roller 21 having recesses 23 which coact with the ears 22 in gear-like fashion. The ears 22 erect the tabs 19. The trailing edge of the sheet 10 is rolled down by the roller 21 around the tabs 19 and then the leading edge of the sheet 11 is rolled down or vice versa. The splice is gripped at each end thereof and pulled off of the plate 20 so that the tabs 19 spring apart.
