Abstract

989,306. Semi-conductor devices. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 14, 1964 [Jan. 24, 1963], No. 3050/63. Heading H1K. A semi-conductor rectifying element 11 is encapsulated in a housing 14 and has one of its two main electrodes connected electrically to a terminal 15 by means of a fusible link located within the housing 14. The fusible link may take the form of a plurality of flexible copper strips 17, each having an opening 18 therein to produce a region of reduced cross-sectional area. The housing 14 may be filled with an electrically-insulating material, such as powdered alumina or sulphur hexafluoride gas, in order to quench any arc which may be formed on the rupture of the fusible link.
