Abstract
989,224. Valves. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. June 4, 1962 [June 23, 1961], No. 22915/61. Heading F2V. A valve for gas flow comprises a body 1 and a diaphragm 2 defining an interspace 5, inlet and outlet ports 6, 7 in the body and communicating with the interspace, a restrictor 15 replaceably housed in one of the ports and means for deflecting the diaphragm into contact with the restrictor for effecting variable impedance to gas flow therethrough. The means for deflecting the diaphragm consists of a worm gear 18, 19 and a screwed spindle 16 with a pressure pad 17 while the restrictor consists of replaceable polyethylene tubing 15 having a bore of the order of 0.03 inch diameter. The diaphragm 2 and an annulus 13 obturating the outlet port 7 are also of polyethylene. The valve is stated to give accurate control of flow in the range 1 to 20 Ál/hour and to be suitable for use with mass spectrometers.
