Abstract
988,788. Transferring sides of bacon. STEWART GILL & CO. Ltd. Dec. 23, 1963 [Jan. 1, 1963], No. 130/63. Heading B8A. Sides of bacon are carried by hooks 16 transferred to bar 34 for weighing then re-transferred back to the hooks. Thus, endless chain 11 drives carriages 10 along the rail 12, each carriage at 15 carrying a detachable hook 16 formed with front and back conformations 17 and 18 and carrying a side of bacon. The transfer from carriage 10 to bar 34 and from bar 34 back to carriage 10 is effected by means of two fluid cylinders 28 and 36 of which cylinder 28 rocks lever 24 about pivot 25 to move the supports 32 and 33 to reverse their lower and upper position. Cylinder 36, by means of pusher 37, pushes a hook 16 carrying the bacon from support 32 on to bar 34 and from bar 34 on to support 33. Operation.-A carriage 10, carrying a hook 16 supporting a side of bacon, moves rightwards until the conformation 18 of hook 16 rests as shown over support 32. At this moment cylinder 28 operates to rock the lever 24 and thus raise support 32 to engage the conformation 18 and lift the hook plus bacon off the element 15 of carriage 10. The hook 16 rises with support 32 until it is level with cylinder 36. The latter then operates to push the hook 16 from support 32 on to bar 34 and permit it to be weighed at this point. In the meantime the carriage 10 is travelling right. wards (without its hook 16) and reaches the point corresponding to support 33. Cylinder 28 operates again to raise support 33 to its elevated position ready for hook 16. Hook 16 is then transferred by a second movement of cylinder 36 on to the said support 33. Support 33 under the action of cylinder 28 then moves downwards to transfer the hook 16 plus its side of bacon on to the element 15 of the carriage 10 positioned ready at this point. The hook 16, plus the weighed side of bacon, and carriage 10, then move along rail 12. In a similar manner the hooks carrying sides of bacon may be transferred on to a storage rail.
