In a universal self-centring toothed joint 8 between a rotor 4 and output gear-wheel 5 of a hydrodynamic transmission, which together form a hollow shaft 9 surrounding an impeller shaft 2, the clearance space therebetween containing working pressure fluid, leakage of the pressure fluid through the root and crest clearances 12 of the mating teeth 8 is prevented by a seal 14 located in a circular recess 13 in the hubs of the rotor 4 and gear-wheel 5, the surface of the seal covering the inner radial ends of the clearances 12. The ring 14 is formed at one end with a sharp edged lip 14b the flexibility of which ensures contact with the side face of the recess 13 to allow for tolerance variations, the maximum width of the recess corresponding to the minimum width of the seal.
