A crimped bottle cap has slots 30 distributed on the cap to form elongated strips 34 extending from a position close to the free edge of the cap and converging towards a point close to the centre of the crown, so that if one of these strips is detached without severing the edge of the skirt the grip of the crimped portion on the bottle neck is released and the cap can be removed and then used to re-stopper the bottle. One of the strips 34 can be additionally attached to the crown at its inner end so that it cannot be raised by hand.
