Abstract

The invention comprises betaine acid fumarate, its preparation by reacting fumaric acid with betaine in an inert organic solvent medium, and pharmaceutical preparations containing it. The compound of the invention is a liver-protecting drug, and may be administered orally, parenterally or rectally in the form of pharmaceutical preparations (e.g. compressed tablets, pills, dispersible powders, granules, emulsions, solutions, suspensions, syrups, elixirs, capsules, sterile aqueous and non-aqueous solutions, suspensions and emulsions, and suppositories) containing it in association with a diluent, carrier or coating.
