[Also in Division B8] Apparatus for treating foundry sand comprises a primary mixing and conveying unit 10 discharging at 19 into the inlet of a similar secondary unit 11. The unit 10 is carried by a vertical rotatable pillar 12 while the unit 11 is pivotally supported at the inlet end by a shaft and bearing 23, 24 on a beam 20, the other end of which is secured to the rotatable pillar 12. Each mixing unit may include a screw-type conveyer the blades of which may be provided with additional mixing members or be interrupted at places where mixing paddles are secured to the shaft. The hands of the screws are reversed between the discharge outlets and the adjacent ends of the mixing units. Sand is supplied to the unit 10 from a hopper 29 having an adjustable sand gate and a closing slide actuated by a hydraulic ram 31; and powdery binder is metered from a hopper 39 by an adjustable worm feeder 33. The apparatus may be swung about its pivots to discharge in any required position by the handle 38 near which are mounted control push-buttons 37. The height of the apparatus may be adjusted by hydraulic rams not depicted. Specifications 952,517 and 952,518 also are referred to.
