Abstract

952,517. Mixing foundry sand. FORDATH ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Sept. 5, 1962 [Oct. 13, 1961], No. 36746/61. Heading B1C. A mixer and conveyer for foundry sand, binder and accelerator is mounted on a vertical pivot so that it can be swivelled to facilitate distribution. As shown, the mixer comprises a screw 11, motor 16, and sand supply hopper 23 with adjustable apertured plates 25 for controlling the rate of discharge and a closure plate 26 actuated by a pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder 27. A metered quantity of core binder is pumped through the nozzle 28 and powdered accelerator is supplied at 29. A handle 32 for swinging the mixer about the pivot 15 is mounted on the discharge end of the housing 12, as are "stop" and "start" buttons 31 for controlling the mixer drive, sand gate and accelerator feed. The band of the screw 11 is reversed between the discharge outlet and the end of the housing to ensure complete discharge; the screw flight may be discontinuous, mixing paddles being mounted between the screw sections.
