Abstract

993,803. Concrete mixers. P. AUGUST. July 2, 1962, No. 25203/62. Heading B1C. Dry mix materials are proportioned by weight and pre-mixed in batches in a loading skip which charges a continuous-discharge mixer. A concrete mixing plant has a drumshaped loading skip guided by wheels 10 and rollers 12 on rails 11 ; the wheels 10 operate a rotary stirring device (not depicted) in the drum. The drum is hoisted by a motor 13, winch 15 and cable 18; the motor may be a pole-changing reversible motor and automatically controlled at least in part in dependence on the motion of the drum. As the drum reaches its uppermost position the rollers 12 are guided along the path 19a, 19b, 19c and the wheels 10 along the path 11b, 11c whereby the drum is tilted and its contents are discharged from the outlet 9<SP>1</SP> across the full width of a shoot 3 feeding a continuous discharge mixer 1. The shoot 3 has a feeding screw 5 (which has an increasing conveying capacity towards its discharge end) feeding a mixing screw 4 ; water may be supplied by a transverse spray pipe 20 discharging upwards against a baffle 21. The mixer discharges into a storage container 24 suspended at one side on a spring 23 ; when the container is full its weight activates a switch 23 to stop the motor 8 driving the screws 4, 5, and also, if desired, to close a magnetically operated valve controlling the water supply.
