Abstract

987,458. Boiler furnaces. IDEAL-STANDARD Ltd. March 26, 1962 [March 27, 1961], No. 11510/62. Heading F4B. A central heating boiler has two combustion chambers, one for liquid fuel firing and one for solid fuel firing alongside the first. The liquid fuel combustion chamber 1 is constructed from cast iron sections 2 which have waterways connecting with ports 4 and 5, sealing ribs 6, internal sealing ribs 7 and flue portions 11 which lead the flue gas from the front of the boiler to a hood at the rear. The foremost section has an upper door 15 and an oil burner is mounted on a lower door 16. The second combustion chamber 18 has a metal casing 20 lined with firebrick 19, an ash tray 23, a charging door 26, a fire door 27 and an ash door 28. The two chambers communicate by means of slots 29, a heat resisting plate 30 being provided in the solid fuel combustion chamber as a combined deflector and reflector. The boiler has an outer casing 31 with an outer door 32 which will close only when the doors 26, 27 and 28 are closed. The oil burner will operate only when the outer door 32 is closed, electrical or mechanical means being provided to ensure this. A suitable electrical system comprises a contact on door 32 which interrupts the electric motor circuit of the burner when the door is open.
