Abstract

The boiler has a rectangular casing (60) lined internally with refractory material (72) to form a rectangular combustion chamber. A grate (63) with a fire door (64) allows solid fuel to be burned and an opening above this allows an oil burner (62) to be placed in the front of the boiler. Header tubes (76) run round the walls as a rectangle within the refractory walls at the top of the walls and similar header tubes (77) run round the bottom of the walls. The headers are joined by vertical tubes (78) with in the refractory walls. This arrangement of the tubes increases the boiler efficiency and makes the combustion chamber suitable for alternative fuels.
