Abstract

The boiler has an outer casing (1) which forms a smoke way with a flue connection (1b). Water enters a header (2) in the base of the boiler from which vertical water tubes (4) take it to horizontal tubes (5) forming the base of a grate. The grate consists of refractory bars (12) over these water tubes. The grate water tubes (5) communicate with water jackets (7) forming the sides of the combustion chamber. The flow header (9) forms the top of the chamber. There is a rectangular fuel hopper (17) in front of the combustion chamber. It contains a chain type automatic feeder (18). This discharges fuel into the top of the combustion chamber.
