Abstract

986,877. Stacking and nesting containers. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. Feb. 24, 1964 [Feb. 25, 1963], No. 7618/64. Headings B8D and B8P. A stacking or nesting container with compartments 12, 14, 16, 18 extending downwardly from a horizontal shelf 10 so that the container will nest in another similar container, has an outer sloping wall 20 so shaped that the container will stack on top of a circular container when it is turned horizontally through a predetermined angle. In the form shown, the periphery of the shelf 10 is of scalloped pattern except at the corners as also is the side wall 20, the inner corrugations 30 being of steeper slope than the outer one and terminating at a ledge 22 above the bottom side wall. A flange like strip 32 extends from the foot of wall 20 terminating in an upturned rim 38. Drainage holes may be provided in the compartment bases. In further embodiments there may be three compartments arranged so that when stacked the base of a compartment in an upper container rests on the shelf 10 of a lower container. The peripheral shape of the container may be circular or octagonal and the angle through which the containers are rotated may differ.
