Abstract

986,722. Pipe connections; securing articles on shafts. O. UEBE. July 5, 1963 [July 6, 1962], No. 26796/63. Headings F2G and F2U. [Also in Division A4] A coupling for clamping a member to a pipe, rod, shaft or the like comprises a sleeve 2 insertable into a bore extending through said member, the sleeve at one end having outer screw threads 2a the flank angle of which is between 80 degrees and 110 degrees and an outwardly divergent axially slit conical surface at the opposite end, a flanged tightening screw 3 and a flanged counter ring 1 having a conical surface engageable with said outwardly divergent conical surface. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 a shelf 5 is connected to a pipe 4 by tightening the screw 3 on the threaded end of the axially slotted sleeve 2, causing the conical surface at the other end of the sleeve 2 to be drawn into that of the counter ring 1, so tightening the sleeve 2 on the pipe at both ends. The pipe may be of other than circular cross-section and Fig. 12 shows a sleeve suitable for a square pipe which, in addition to an axial slot, has radial slits 2d at the corners of the rectangular space 2c and extending over the length of the conical surface 2b<SP>1</SP>.
