Abstract

985,259. Change-speed control. ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSCHAFEN A.G. July 30, 1963 [Aug. 10, 1962], No. 30193/63. Heading F2D. [Also in Division G3] A servo mechanism particularly for use as a power-assisted gear change mechanism, comprises a double-acting piston 2 having a cavity 6 supplied with fluid pressure through a port 14 and an actuating member 1 which carries elastically deformable valve members 7, 8 preferably urged apart by a spring 13. The valve members co-operate with seats 11, 12 on the piston to control flow of pressure fluid to pressure chambers 4, 5 through passages 20 and 22, 23, 24 respectively and with seats 9, 10 on the actuating member to control exhaust of pressure fluid from the chambers through passages 20, 19, 17 and 24, 23, 22, 21, 18 respectively. With the actuator and piston in the position shown both chambers 4, 5 are open to exhaust. If the actuator is moved to the right, say, the valve member 7 remains in contact with the seat 11 and chamber 4 is open to exhaust while the valve member 8 is deformed by the seat to close the chamber 5 to exhaust and the valve is lifted off the seat 12 to allow fluid pressure in cavity 6 to flow to chamber 5 thus causing movement of the piston 2 to the right until the actuator and valve are again in the relative position shown. The piston 2 has member 25 which is connected to the adjusted member such as the gear shift finger. The fluid supply to the cavity 6 may be provided in the actuator 1.
