Abstract
985, 250. Doubling apparatus. S. F. SHORE, and F. DUFF. Jan. 27, 1964 [Feb. 8, 1963], No. 5165/63. Heading D1D. In apparatus for doubling yarns, fourfolds are prevented when a break occurs in the combined yarns between the delivery rollers b and the traveller c by providing a hook above the delivery rollers, whereby, it is stated, the inherent twist in the component yarns causes the broken yarn to run back and become wound on the rollers instead of lashing into the path of the yarns being wound on an adjacent spindle. The yarns are drawn from a creel a and after passing through the delivery rollers and over the hook travel to the take-up spindle through a guide b<SP>3</SP>. The hook comprises a stiff wire pivotably mounted in a bracket d, and the delivery rollers comprise either a superposed pair with the yarns taking a loop around the lower one and then encircling the upper one before passing to the hook, or three rollers, one over and above two lower ones, in which case the yarn takes a loop around the first roller, completely encircles the middle roller and then takes a loop over the hook and leaves the rollers through the nip of the middle and third rollers (Figs. 2, 3 not shown).
