A draw winder receives a fibre which is slit into filaments, each or each pair of which are tensioned by separate tensioning means. The filaments are delivered to an oven by common nip rollers and stretched by the tensioning means which advance them faster than the nip rollers. The tensioning means may comprise an advancing reel or a pair of nip rollers, the auxiliary one of which has its axis askew to the other. A separate bobbin is provided for each filament, but if the original film is tubular a pair of filaments may be wound on individual bobbins.
